7th Lux Pacifica
The TIES has announced that the 7th Lux Pacifica conference will be held at the end of the first week in March 2012 in Bangkok. The venue for the conference will be The Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel in Sukhumvit.
The diamond shapes and colours of the logo are an ornamental representation of some of the philosophical and architectural elements of Buddhism in Thailand. They also represent the triple elements of the Thai nation, Buddhism and the King.
The Board of Lux Pacifica looks forward to publishing further details of the conference in the coming weeks.
Relighting an Historic Chedi on the Chao Praya River
Light & Water Seminar and Workshop
Sustainable Lighting for Cultural Heritage and People
Bangkok, Thailand, 1 – 5 February 2012
In early February a seminar and workshop was held in Bangkok. Students and staff from the School of Architecture & Design at King Mongkutt University in Bangkok, from the College of Architecture & Planning at Tongji University in Shanghai, from the QUT Science & Engineering Faculty and from the Illumination Design Program in the Faculty of Architecture Design & Planning at the University of Sydney participated. The basis of the workshop was to provide an intensive course for exterior lighting design divided into 2 parts: 3 days of lectures followed by a 2-day, practical workshop. A site on the Chao Phraya River was selected and some mock-up lighting prepared. One of the major themes of the workshop was sustainable, urban lighting and the workshop results might be incorporated into a proposed river route that will make up a “Bangkok Night Map”.
